Congressman Troy E. Nehls, a Republican who has won several recent elections in Texas, used his social media platform to criticize Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on federal workers and aviation services.
On November 2, 2025, Nehls wrote: “The dishonest media hasn’t told the truth for decades, but the facts are quite clear. @SenRonJohnson introduced a bill to pay essential federal workers during the shutdown. Democrats rejected it. The Democrat Party owns the pain Americans are feeling because of the shutdown.”
A day later, on November 3, 2025, he commented on airport delays: “TSA wait times at Bush Airport are up to three hours. This is all thanks to Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, who’ve voted 13 times to shut down the government.”
Later that same day, Nehls highlighted concerns from an air traffic controllers’ union: “NATCA—a union that represents nearly 20,000 air traffic controllers, engineers, and aviation safety-related professionals —is calling on Congress to pass a clean CR. The Democrat shutdown is putting our aviation system in jeopardy. Democrats need to end the shutdown NOW.”
Troy Nehls has represented his district in Congress since winning election against Sri Preston Kulkarni in 2020 with 51.5% of the vote. He was re-elected in both 2022 and 2024 with more than 62% of the vote each time.
