Congressman Troy E. Nehls, who represents Texas’s 22nd congressional district, posted a series of statements on his social media account on October 2, 2025, addressing recent political developments and public trust in the media.
In a post published at 14:59 UTC, Nehls stated, “Republicans passed a bill that keeps the government open and working for the American people. Democrats refuse to support it because they want you to be forced to pay for benefits for illegal aliens. This is a Democrat Shutdown.”
Later that day, at 19:18 UTC, he referenced an event from Texas history with a brief message: “October 2, 1835. Come and Take It.”
At 20:11 UTC on the same day, Nehls commented on Americans’ declining trust in mass media by sharing poll results: “BREAKING: A new Gallup poll reveals Americans’ trust in mass media is at a new LOW of 28%. This is what happens when the news spews the talking points of the Left and not actual facts. The dishonest media is the greatest threat to our nation and the American people.”
Troy Nehls has served as U.S. Representative since winning his first general election against Sri Preston Kulkarni in 2020 with just over half of the vote. He was re-elected in subsequent races, defeating Jamie Jordan in 2022 with more than sixty percent of votes and Marquette Greene-Scott in 2024 by a similar margin.
