Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) and Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS-03) issued a joint statement after the fourth meeting of the bipartisan Air Traffic Control (ATC)/National Airspace System (NAS) Modernization Working Group in Washington, D.C.

The lawmakers said the session focused on input from groups involved in general aviation, which includes recreational flying, emergency services, and non-commercial civilian flights. General aviation plays a significant role in the U.S. economy and workforce.

“Today, the bipartisan Air Traffic Control (ATC)/National Airspace System (NAS) Modernization Working Group met with stakeholder groups who represent those involved in general aviation in America. From recreational flying to emergency services to non-commercial, non-scheduled civilian flight, general aviation encompasses a wide range of aircraft. Furthermore, general aviation generates billions of dollars in economic activity and provides over a million jobs for hardworking Americans.

“Today’s conversation was extremely productive and provided necessary insight into how America’s air traffic control and national airspace systems can better serve those involved in general aviation. We’re thankful for everyone who was involved in today’s bipartisan modernization working group session, and look forward to continuing this open dialogue, which is helping guide the overhauling of our outdated aviation systems.”

Troy Nehls has been active in congressional work since his first election win against Sri Preston Kulkarni in 2020 by securing 51.5% of the vote. He continued his political career with victories over Jamie Jordan in 2022 with 62.2% of votes cast, and Marquette Greene-Scott in 2024 with 62.1%.
