Congressman Troy E. Nehls, a Republican representative who has secured multiple election victories in Texas, used his social media platform on October 10, 2025, to criticize Democratic lawmakers over ongoing government funding disputes and their stance on healthcare for undocumented immigrants.
In a post published at 13:42 UTC, Nehls shared a video and stated, “WATCH: @SpeakerJohnson is spot on. Chuck Schumer and Democrats are putting politics over people. They would rather force the American people to bankroll healthcare for illegal aliens than to keep the government open and working for Real Americans.”
Later that day at 16:26 UTC, he continued his criticism by writing, “Democrats now admit they won’t end their shutdown unless ‘planes [are] falling out of the sky.’ The safety of the flying public isn’t a concern of the Democrats. Making hardworking Americans pay for illegal aliens’ healthcare is. Insanity.”
By 19:41 UTC, Nehls posted again about congressional votes related to government funding, stating, “Democrats have voted to shut down the government 7 times—all because they want $1.5 TRILLION in new spending, including taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens. They care more about the illegal aliens who broke our laws and invaded our country than Americans who work hard”.
Nehls has represented his district since winning office in 2020 after defeating Sri Preston Kulkarni with just over half of the vote. He maintained his seat in subsequent elections against Jamie Jordan in 2022 and Marquette Greene-Scott in 2024 with significant margins.
These statements come amid heightened partisan tensions over federal spending priorities and immigration policy.
