The COVID-19 pandemic's incidence of disease may peak around April 23 in the Houston area, a new modeling projection is estimating.

COVID-19 disease incidence may likely peak around Thursday, according to modeling projections from the University of Texas School of Public Health as reported to the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court

The new projection updates an earlier one that suggested the peak could be around April 7.

Jacquelyn Johnson Minter, Fort Bend County Health & Human Services director, and Fort Bend County Judge KP George reported the findings at a recent Fort Bend County Commissioners Court. Minter said the updated projection will allow hospitals not to be overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients.

As of April 18, Texas reported 18.260 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 453 deaths. Fort Bend County has 755 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
