Construction on a new basin at Willow Waterhole Bayou upstream of South Post Oak Road that is expected to contain nearly 18 acre-feet of stormwater during strong rain events is underway.
With the Harris County Commissioners Court’s approval, the Harris County Flood Control District has commenced work on the detention basin.
City of Houston Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Martha Castex-Tatum called the construction an exciting project.
“Anytime we have the ability to reduce the risk of flooding of homes and businesses, we are improving the quality of life for our residents,” Castex-Tatum said on the HCFCD’s website. “This area deserves the relief this project will provide after repeatedly flooding over the past several years. The construction of this detention basin is a testament of the power of partnerships and community engagement.”
Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis said the basin will provide equitable flood protection for families in the area.
