Mayor John Whitmire and Houston City Council members have nominated and approved several new appointees for the Houston First Board of Directors. Since its inception in 2011, Houston First has played a pivotal role in developing the city's destination brand strategy, promoting Houston globally, boosting tourism and convention business, operating various facilities, producing community events, and collaborating with commercial and industry partners. The newly appointed board members are expected to contribute their unique perspectives and experiences to further these initiatives.

The board of directors is tasked with setting policy for the corporation and approving its significant initiatives and expenditures. The recent appointments represent a substantial shift in the composition of the 13-member board. This change reflects not only numerical differences but also diversity and expertise. The board will now be majority women and will include the first person of Chinese descent to serve, mirroring Houston's global reach and connections.

The individuals confirmed to serve terms until December 31, 2026 include Wea H. Lee, Chairman of Southern News Group; Nicki Keenan, Senior Vice President of Sales at Landry's Inc.; Shareen Larmond, president of the West Gulf Maritime Association; and Roxann Neumann, Sr. Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Silver Eagle Beverages.

During a city council meeting today, Mayor Whitmire expressed his confidence in the new appointees' ability to positively impact Houston First. "Each of the new appointees has a long history of community involvement and philanthropic initiatives and wants the best for the City of Houston," said Mayor Whitmire. "I am certain they will do an excellent job working with the rest of the Houston First board and leadership. I thank each of them for their public service and leadership. Houston First is one of our economic engines, attracting hundreds of meetings, conventions, visitors, and events to our city each year."
