The City of Houston is providing $71,500 in grants to 29 individuals and nonprofit organizations through the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA). These grants are intended for programs that enhance artistic creativity and innovation within Houston. The awards highlight the significant contributions of the recipients to the city's cultural landscape.
"Houston’s diverse arts and cultural offerings provide tremendous service to our community, attract visitors and support a strong creative sector," said Necole S. Irvin, director of MOCA.
The funding is part of the Let Creativity Happen grant program, managed by Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) and financed by a portion of the city's Hotel Occupancy Tax. This program encourages artists and organizations to pursue creative projects that might not receive traditional funding. It supports innovative ideas that challenge artistic norms and create unique art experiences.
The grantees for this round include Anthony Barilla, Carmen Reeves, Classical Arts Society of Houston, among others. More information on current and past grantees can be found on the Houston Arts Alliance website.
The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs aims to expand access to arts programs in Houston while attracting visitors and encouraging private investment. Further details are available on their website.
Houston Arts Alliance works with MOCA to implement arts grantmaking and civic art investments in line with the city’s goals. It also runs special projects funded privately to support local artists and nonprofits.
