The City of Sugar Land will likely delay some scheduled projects centered around transportation in the capital improvement plan, Mayor Joe Zimmerman said.

According to Community Impact, Zimmerman said some projects are paramount to keep the budget balanced. However, the mayor adds that it is not yet clear which projects will move to the front of the line.

“In order to keep the budget balanced, we will more than likely push some projects,” Zimmerman told Community Impact. “We don't know which projects yet that we would push.”

Zimmerman says Sugar Land has $40.5 million to spend on the CIP, and plans to add $263.8 million.

“That's the beauty of having a five-year CIP,” Zimmerman told Community Impact. “You can you can slide projects or delay projects, but you can also move them up."

“All the projects are necessary, but they’re not essential to be done today,” Zimmerman said. “(City staff) will now look at what projects make sense to push to maybe next year or the year after, in order to balance the budget.”
