Texas General Land Office (GLO) is accepting applications for the Homeowner Assistance Program for Harris County.

According to Commissioner George P. Bush, Harris County homeowners who have been struck by Hurricane Harvey who desperately needs assistance are prompted to apply.

The program provides funds to pay for repairs, rehabilitation, reconstruction and other much-needed improvements. The goal is to prepare damaged homes while making them more resilient to future natural disasters. GLO officials say this can include elevating homes so they are above flood level.

"Hurricane Harvey damaged thousands of homes and devastated the livelihoods of countless Texans," Bush said in the news release. "As the GLO takes on a more active role in the Houston and Harris County housing recovery, our focus is to spread the word that help is here for those who are still struggling to repair their homes and rebuild their lives."

Residents can contact the GLO online or call 866-317-1998.
