Hispanic students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Fort Bend County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 186,538 students attending Fort Bend County schools, 30.5% were Hispanic. Asian students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 22.1% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students also made up the largest ethnic group in Fort Bend County, comprising 30.6% of the student body.

Donald Leonetti Elementary School had the most even distribution of races among the schools in the county, which included 26.6% Black students, 25.4% white students, 21.3% Asian students, 16.8% Hispanic students, 9.1% multiracial students, 0.4% American Indian students, and 0.4% Pacific Islander students.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county increased by 1%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
