Nehls, born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in 1968, now resides in Richmond. His career includes earning a BA from Liberty University and succeeding Pete Olson in Congress.
On April 10, 2025, Nehls expressed some lighthearted anticipation for the upcoming weekend, acknowledging his fellow "patriots" with the comment "It’s Almost Friday, Patriots. ". He tagged @RepDonaldsPress in the tweet, connecting to a broader audience.
Later the same day, Nehls paid tribute on the House Floor to "my good friend, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Deputy David Fontenot." Nehls highlighted Fontenot's over 30-year dedication to law enforcement and shared the somber news of Fontenot's passing on March 29th after battling cancer.
