Congressman Troy E. Nehls, representing Texas' 22nd district since 2021, expressed his views on various policies through a series of tweets in April 2025. Nehls, who replaced Pete Olson in Congress, shared his opinions on federal immigration and voting laws, as well as judicial decisions affecting the governance of former President Donald Trump.
On April 9, 2025, Nehls commented on the repercussions of certain immigration policies. "Releasing violent illegal aliens into communities is not conducive to public safety," he stated, criticizing sanctuary jurisdictions for potentially compromising community safety. These policies, Nehls argued, contribute to what he described as "America last" priorities, which he claims are frustration to the public.
The following day, on April 10, 2025, Nehls addressed the actions of judges whom he referred to as activists. He suggested that these judges are actively hindering the agenda of former President Trump, adding, "The House just passed a bill to rein them in. I voted YES." This indicates his support for legislative actions aimed at regulating judicial power.
Later on the same day, Nehls highlighted another legislative development: the House passing a bill concerning voter registration. "The House just passed a bill that requires proof of citizenship for voter registration and states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls," he noted, affirming his approval by stating, "I voted YES to pass this bill." Nehls questioned the opposition of 208 Democrats who voted against the bill.
Texas’ 22nd district is currently represented by Nehls, a Richmond resident born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in 1968. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Liberty University.
